Melkbosstrand

The commercial elements that are so embedded in the towns found along the Garden Route start to dissipate the higher you go up West Coast. Melkbosstrand is close enough to Cape Town and the Golf Estates to be seeped in old-timely capitalistic fervour  The town is pretty; the beach an expanse of white sand and blue sea; Table Mountain looms in the distance. If you like the comfort of brand-name meals, enjoyed with a great sea view, then this is the place for you. Also, if you walk long enough down the beach, then you can get a nice view of a real nuclear power plant. I must admit, Koeberg was not the ominous visage of power I was expecting. Movies have produced such a stereotypical concept of power plants in my mind, that if I don't see massive silos and armed security guards keeping zombies caged in pens, then I am bound to be disappointed. Okay, some computer games may have had a glancing influence.

All in all Melkbosstrand is a pretty place to come have breakfast, but won't give you a feel for the west coast.

Enjoy some pictures.
